The Salem State University only needed two innings to do its damage, as the Vikings defeated the UMPI Owls 8-0 in the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic at the Central Park Sports Complex Monday afternoon. The game was called after five innings. Salem State is now 1-2, while the Owls lost their third straight of the early season. UMPI lost to Randolph College earlier in the day.

The Vikings scored three runs in the second and plated five more runs in the fourth inning. Mackenzie DeSantis (Ridge, N.Y.) led off the second frame for Salem State with a double to left. Maddison Donovan (Pittsfield, MA) singled to right, moving DeSantis over to third. Sydney Rodriguez (Brighton, CO), lifted a sacrifice fly to right sending DeSantis home with the Vikings first run. After a strikeout by Owls hurler Gracelyn Walsh (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, Canada), Emily Henning (Grafton, MA) blasted a two-run homer to left center.

In the fifth inning, Hannah McGee (Salem, MA) (double) and Dawn Eisnor (Medford, MA) (single) each knocked home a pair of teammates. Hailey Ano (Pittsfield, MA) had an RBI single to right in the frame. Walsh had scattered a dozen hits, walking one while striking out four in her complete game outing. Katherine Quigley (Ipswich, MA) gave up six hits for the shutout.
