The UMPI Owls Women's Basketball Team defeated NVU-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon71 to 58 on the home-court of the Hornets as the two teams split a weekend series. Lyndon had knocked off UMPI on Friday night 71 to 68.

UMPI and Lyndon both came out of the gate a little cold offensively as the score was tied 6 to 6 after three and a half minutes of play with Aleia Milano connecting on the games first score followed by and Emily Wheaton 3 pointer and then a Milano free throw. An Alexis Ireland free throw, a Milano 3 pointer and a Wheaton pull-up jumper led the Owls to a 14 to 9 advantage after the 1st Quarter.

Two Kourtney West free throws midway through the 2nd Quarter gave the Owls a 21 to 13 lead before the Hornets would go on a 10 to 0 run with an inside score by Riann Fortin giving Lyndon a brief lead 23 to 21. Emily Wheaton drained a long 3 pointer with 23 seconds remaining in the half to give UMPI a 29 to 25 lead at the intermission.

In the 3rd Quarter Lauren Magno would nail a 3 pointer followed by two Lexi Ireland free throws and the Owls stretched their lead to 46 to 34. A Milano 3 pointer with 28 seconds left would up the UMPI lead to 56 to 39 going into the final frame. Lyndon would cut into the lead late in the 4th Quarter and pull within 10 points of the Owls but that was as close as it got.

Aleia Milano followed up her 29 point performance from the previous night with 23 points in this game along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Emily Wheaton also had an excellent game with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and  Alexis Ireland recorded a team-high 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Lauren Magno had 9 points and Chantel Williams added 8 points and 5 rebounds while playing stellar defense and keeping the Hornets top scorer to 4 points.
