The UMPI Owls traveled downstate to face off against NESCAC opponent Bowdoin bears. The Owls came up short falling 70-8 as Bowdoin College moved to 4-5 on their season.
During the first half, the Owls would battle closely with Bowdoin until the Bears started to get hot from the field. The Owls trailed by 10 points until guard Akhe McMichael would hit a 3-pointer off of a steal from Senior KJ Minter bringing the score to 19-26. Continuing to battle back and forth, the first half would come to a close with the score at 36-44.
Coming out of halftime the Bears quickly found themselves in a groove as they would hold the Owls scoreless for the first 3 minutes of the half and put themselves up 36-51. The Owls would try to answer back, but were unable to rally consecutive stops in order to defeat the Bears. The final score was 70-81 in favor of Bowdoin.
Junior Gilbert Jean-Mendez led the Owls in multiple categories as he had 23 points, 5 steals, and 10 rebounds. Graduate Student Griffin Guerrette continued to play well also he added another 19 points for the Owls. Coming off the bench and making a big impact was Akhe McMichael who put up 13 points.
UMPI will look to bounce back and pick up some wins before the Holiday break as they are back in action this weekend in Non-Conference play at Roger Williams University Saturday the 10th and Lesley College Sunday the 11th.
