The UMPI men's basketball team traveled north to the University of Maine at Fort Kent to face off against the Bengals, losing 73-69.
The teams battled back and forth throughout the whole game, in a battle of runs. The Owls found themselves up early in the first half, before the Bengals battled back to bring the game tied going into the half. With the game tied the teams continued to fight for a slight edge in the second half. With the game tied at the one minute mark, the Bengals were able to get to the free throw line and bring the lead to two points. Later the Bengals would find themselves at the line, making 6 of their last 6 free throws to help themselves overcome the Owls comeback.
The Owls finished with four players in double digits, with Griffin Guerrette leading the way with 18 points and six assists on the game. Gilbert Jean Mendez finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Senior captain KJ Minter finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Charlie Mellick finished the game with 15 points off the bench, shooting 6-11 from the field.
The Owls face off against NAC opponent Husson University next.
