The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Northern Vermont University – Lyndon in a NAC doubleheader. The Owls swept the Hornets in both games to advance them to 3-2 in the NAC and 3-14 on the year while the Hornets now sit 0-3 in the NAC.
Match 1
Owls vs Hornets – 25-14, 25-14, 25-16
The Owls would be in control for the majority of the matches, as they totaled 35 kills to the Hornets 16 in the first match. A little back and forth play in the first set early, led the an Owls 12-2 run to eventually put the Hornets away. The second set was more of the same, this time instead a 9-0 run by UMPI gave them the big lead. The Hornets the fought hard in the final set of the match, although the Owls consecutive attacks would prevail as they took the third set.
Makala Miskiewicz led the way with a season high 10 kills in just 20 attacks, along with her two service aces, she was responsible for 12 points. Alondra Lopez finished with six kills while Tallia Robledo and Rachel Walker each had five kills apiece. Hailey Kelly finished the game with a team high 21 assists while the Owls 39 digs were led by Alexis Engel.
Match 2
Owls vs Hornets – 25-9, 25-11, 25-11
With the momentum in the Owls favor, they continued to improve their play. Finishing the second match with 24 kills to the Hornets eight. This game was a set of runs for the Owls including an eight point run in the first set and led by Hailey Kelly's serves in the second set the Owls went on a 15-0 run early in the set. The Hornets efforts in the third set to hold off the Owls runs was just not enough as they completed the sweep.
Of the Owls team total 24 kills, Alondra Lopez led the way with nine kills on 17 attempts to go along with her three service aces. Alexis Engel finished the match with an impressive ten service aces to go with her four kills and seven digs. Amalia Erives led the team with 14 assists in the game.
The Owls will head downstate for a mid-week NAC game vs Maine Maritime Academy, as the regular season heads to an end.
