The University of Maine Presque Isle Golf Team opened it's 2022 season on Tuesday September 6th finishing third behind Thomas College and SMCC. UMPI hosted the Event on the beautiful 6026 yard Waterville Country Club in Oakland, Maine.
The inexperienced Owls struggled out of the gate and through the first 9 holes of the match before settling in with all golfers recording much better scores on the back 9. UMPI's two veterans, Payton Jones and Matt Randall each finished with a score of 94 and senior Timmy Burns recorded a 96. First year golfer Branden Oliver also came in at 96 as did second year golfer Joey Lippo. First year player Ricky Goupille out of Presque Isle finished at 107.
Thomas College was impressive throughout the overcast afternoon match as three golfers scored in the 70's for the Terriers. Dylan Cunningham and Kent Johnson were Low Medalists each shooting a 73. Miles Kirby followed closely with a 76. Zach Pelletier rounded out the scoring for Thomas with an 83. For SMCC, Alex Leupold led the team with an 80, Zack Tremblay carded an 81, Al Doughty scored an 82 and Remy Levin a 95 for their top 4 scores.
Thomas finished the day with a Team score of 308 while SMCC finished at 338 and UMPI at 380. The Owls host MMA Wednesday September 14 at 12:00 noon at Presque Isle Country Club.
