The Owls men's soccer team finished their season opener weekend with a 1-1 tie vs Methodist University. This tie brings the Owls to a 0-1-1 record on the year.
The Owls were led early on by first year keeper, Xavier McAtee, stopping an early penalty kick in the ninth minute to keep the game tied a zero each. The Monarchs continued to put pressure on the Owls with 16 shots in the first half, six on goal. All of which were saved by McAtee. UMPI finished the first half with four shots, one on goal. The second half the back and forth play continued, with the shots more even eight to five.
It was not until late in the 52nd minute that the Monarchs stopped the drought with a goal by Charlie Teachey, unassisted. A couple attacks by the Owls was followed by the game tying answer at the 67th minute. Remar Shirley scored the game tying goal, assisted by Brady Holmes. The Owls defense held strong late in the game to secure the tie.
McAtee finished the game with seven saves, allowing only one goal. Nyden Reed led the Owls with two shots on goal while Shirley's one shot on goal went through the net. Hudson Zeisman led the attack for Methodist with three of his five shots on goal.
