University of Maine at Presque Isle Crespi Sisters From Spain to Join Owls

Head Basketball Coach Gavin Kane is pleased to announce the addition of Marina and Catalina Crespi to the UMPI Owls Women's Program for the Fall of 2022. The Crespi sisters are from Can Picafort, Mallorca, Spain. They attended two years of High School in the United States at Layton Christian Academy in Utah and played one season at Dawson Community College in Montana.

While at Layton Christian Academy their High School Team won two Regional Championships and finished 4th overall in the State. Last season at Dawson Community College their Team finished with a 20-12 record and also, led the Nation in Team GPA.

Marina Crespi is a 5'5" guard who has excellent court vision. She is a tough defender and will fit into the Owls more aggressive defensive approach in the upcoming season. "I like to play as a Team, everyone has a role and is needed," said Marina. "I would like to come to UMPI because they gave me an opportunity to continue my studies and also, my athletic career."

Cati is a 5'3" guard who has some similar strengths as her sister. "I hope to bring something new to the team and be a piece that helps the team advance as much as we can. What I like the most is playing as a team and good communication and relationships with both my coach and my teammates. My strong point is my defense," stated Catalina. She continued, "I was attracted by the basketball program and the opportunity that this University gives me for my future."

"Marina and Cati are two hard working individuals.  They are team players and coachable.  I enjoyed my daily job because of the type of student-athletes they were.  Marina was our most improved player towards the end of the season.  Cati is a hustler and a gnat on defense.  Though both are short in stature, they do possess the qualities where working hard to get better is not an issue.  I'm so glad for them to be continuing their careers under Coach Kane and the University of Maine-Presque Isle," said Dawson CC Coach Romeo Lagmay.

"I really like the way both of these young ladies defend," said UMPI Coach Kane. "We must become a better defensive Team to continue to climb up the ranks in the NAC and both Marina and Catalina will defend with aggressiveness and intensity. They come from an excellent Program at Dawson Community College and have had great coaching. They have a year of experience playing college basketball which is a big plus."

Marina Crespi will be majoring in Psychology while Catalina will be enrolled in the Biology Program with a Pre-Med concentration. The UMPI Women's Basketball Staff, players, and the UMPI Community welcome the Crespi sisters to our Campus.
