After a stellar season on the hardwood where the UMPI men's basketball team finished with a regular season record of 15-10. The Owls also put in the work in the classroom, receiving the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Excellence Award, which is awarded to NCAA men's basketball programs who have a team GPA of over a 3.0.
Also being recognized for their individual efforts in the classroom were seniors Griffin Guerrette and KJ Minter. Guerrette and Minter were named to the NABC Honors Court, rewarded to seniors with a cumulative GPA of over a 3.5. Both Guerrette and Minter served as the team's captains for the men's program. Guerrette received NAC All-Conference and MMBCWA All-State honors while also score in his 1,000th career point. Minter had an excellent season on the court as well leading the team in rebounds and being named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Head Coach Dan Kane spoke about his team's effort in the classroom, "This was the first time our program has received an NABC Team Excellence Award. I am extremely proud of our entire team and their efforts not just on the court but in the classroom as well. A special congratulations to a well-deserved award for KJ and Griffin. They set the standard of what we want our men's basketball student athletes to be and have been tremendous leaders helping grow our program to what it is today."
