Organizers of the Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby recently visited Northern Maine Medical Center to present representatives from the Edgar J (Guy) Paradis Cancer Fund with a gift of $10,000 and $12,000 to the Northern Maine Medical Center Foundation.  The donations came as a result of the outstanding success of the Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby.

The Edgar J. Paradis (EJP) Fund has been the recipient of over $110,000 from the Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby and as such, the Derby planners have supported cancer patients and their families for more than 17 years through their generous donations.

An unexpected donation to the Edgar J. Paradis Fund was from Corey Daigle. Corey donated his entire $800 Derby winnings to the fund. This act of kindness and generosity is sincerely appreciated.

The $12,000 received is a portion of the recent total $60,000 pledge of support to the Northern Maine Medical Center capital campaign for its four-story expansion project. This expansion has been completed with patients and employees alike experiencing a state-of-the-art facility.

Travis Guy, EJP Board Chair stated, “On behalf of the EJP Cancer Fund we want to thank the Long Lake Fishing Derby for their continued support of the fund.  With this generous donation, it enables us to continue to assist our local residents obtain the care they need.  We are extremely grateful.”  Guy concluded, “The board members of the EJP Cancer Fund extends our deepest thanks to organizers and to everyone who took part in the fishing derby.”

The Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby is Maine’s largest cash prize ice fishing derby and Northern Maine Medical Center is happy to support this annual event.
