University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Earn Top 5 Ranking in State - Guerrette Earns First Team All-State

For the second year in a row Griffin Guerrette earns First Team All-State by the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association. As well as his 2022 First Team recognition, Guerrette was also named to the All-Rookie Team in the 2018-19 season.

This year Guerrette finished second in the state in points per game with 19.4 points per game. On his 505 points, Guerrette shot 43.3% from the field, 26% from the three and 82.3% from the free throw line. His season was highlighted by his 39 point game vs Husson University in the North Atlantic Conference East Semi Final Playoff Game. Scoring his 39 points on 14-21 (67%) shooting and 10-11 from the free throw line. This performance along with his 24 point game vs the University of Maine at Farmington in the NAC East Final, earned him a spot on the NAC All-Tournament Team. Guerrette finishes his career second all-time in UMPI men's basketball scoring, with 1792 career points. Averaging 16.4 ppg, shooting 43% from the field, 34% from three and 83% from the free throw line in his career at UMPI.

The Owls men's team finishes fourth in the Maine Coaches Poll, this gives the Owls their first top five finish since 1997. This season the Owls battled through injuries and a tough first semester of all road games, as they started their season 3-11. However, the Owls found their rhythm in the back end of the semester, going 9-2 in their las 11 regular season games. Finishing tied second in the NAC East Division and going on to defeat Husson University 97-87 to advance to the NAC East Final, where they lost to UMF, finishing their season with a 13-14 record.
