The University of Maine at Presque Isle announced on Mar. 13 that its Employer U program will offer a six-session professional development series titled “Communicating in the Modern Workplace: Speak. Write. Succeed.” The sessions are scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 31 and continue through Thursday, April 16.
The series aims to help participants improve their communication skills in various professional settings, including written communications, workplace presentations, and challenging conversations. Organizers say the training is designed for individuals from any industry and at all levels of employment who want to strengthen their ability to communicate effectively.
“Clear, confident communication is essential for professional success,” said Kim Jones, UMPI Associate Professor of Business and instructor for this professional development series. “In direct response to employer requests and feedback from Employer U alumni, this interactive series will help participants strengthen their ability to speak clearly, write effectively, deliver engaging presentations, and navigate challenging workplace conversations professionally.”
Employer U is UMPI’s professional development program that offers a range of opportunities from skill-building workshops to micro-credential attainment and nationally recognized certifications. The upcoming series will cover topics such as Foundations of Workplace Communication, Speaking with Clarity and Confidence, Writing for Busy People, Powerful Presentations, Communication in Challenging Situations, and Communicating for Professional Success. Those who complete all six sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion along with 12 contact hours of professional development.
Sessions will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m., using a hyflex format that allows participation either in-person at UMPI’s MMG Center for Professional Development or online via Zoom. Registration costs $299 per person or $249 per person for groups of three or more from the same organization. There are limited spots available—24 in-person seats and 20 Zoom spots—and registration is first come, first served.
