University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Volleyball Rounds Out Regular Season Play

The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team competed in their final regular season game of the year, in a home match up vs North Atlantic Conference number one seed, Maine Maritime Academy. The Mariners beat the Owls in three sets as they advanced to 8-0 in the NAC while the Owls finish the regular season 3-5 in conference play and 3-18 on the year.

Owls vs Mariners – 25-17, 25-15, 25-9

Some quick runs by the Mariners gave them an early lead, before the Owls answered to bring themselves within three points midway through the set. Although each run by the Owls was quickly answered by a Mariners run, eventually taking the first set. With the second set close early, the Mariners put together a seven score run to give them a 10-point lead. The Owls were able to answer later in the set with a seven-point run themselves, but the deficit was too much as the Mariners took the second set. The Mariners came out strong in the third set to give them a big 15-1 lead, later continuing to maintain the lead and take the final set.

Makayla Miskiewicz led the Owls with seven kills on 28 attack attempts while fellow senior Hailey Kelly led the team with seven assists on the day. The Owls would finish the game with 15 kills on the day and recorded 31 digs on the defensive end.

The Owls will wait to hear about the North Atlantic Conference standing for the post season play.
