University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls with a Statement Win Over the Terriers on Senior Day

The UMPI Owls women's Soccer team beats North Atlantic Conference opponent Thomas College 4-0. In the Owls Shut out win vs the Terriers, they also celebrated their senior day. The Owls had seven seniors to celebrate their final home game, Taylor Shute, Savannah Rodriguez, Monica McLaughlin, Kassandra Nelson, Zhoreen Malik, Ashlyn Wing, and Hope Shea. This win brings the Owls to 5-2-1 in the NAC while the Terriers now sit 3-3-1 in the conference.

The Terriers would put some pressure on the Owls in the early minutes of the game, although the Owls had a very quick response. Scoring their first goal in the seventh minute of the game, was Hope Shea scoring her first career goal as an Owl, assisted by Zhoreen Malik. The Owls continued to pressure the net in the first half, with 12 shots to the Terriers two. The pressure would pay off with another goal before heading into the half, this goal by defender Kassandra Nelson, scoring her first goal of the year in the 40th minute of the game. The second half was more of the same as they Owls came out of the half on fire, and who else but Alexis Ireland to start the second half with a goal in the first five minute of the half. Scoring her 12th goal on the season, Ireland's goal was assisted by fellow senior Taylor Shute. Shea and the Owls would not stop there as she score her second career goal in the 70th minute of the game to put the game away.

Ireland's goal came off nine shots, five of which were on goal. Shea's two goals came off three shots, all of which were on goal. Malik added two shots on goal, while the team finished with an impressive 21 shots, 15 of which were on goal. The Owls offense stole the show, although their defensive was just as impressive holding the Terriers to just four shots on the game, three of which were all saved by Savannah Rodriguez.

The Owls will finish their regular season with another NAC game, as they travel to Lyndonville Vermont to take on Northern Vermont University – Lyndon.
