Northern Maine Community College seeks a Dean of Development and Public Affairs that leads the college’s marketing, resource development, publications, fund-raising and public relations activities. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan, increasing support by soliciting and securing funding from public, private and grant making entities; designing and developing new programs and initiative for corporate foundation fund raising. The position directs the college’s public relations, including internal and external communications; and provides leadership and coordination of programs and activities for alumni and community relations. The Dean serves as the executive director of the College’s Foundation and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role is highly visible and requires strong planning, execution, and collaborative skills as well as demonstrated experience in bringing about institutional change. This position is critical as Northern Maine Community College continues the commitment to students’ success, guided by the campus policies and the institution’s strategic plan.
NMCC seeks an energetic leader who will provide vision and direction in building relationships with internal and external entities that will enhance the NMCC mission.
As a key leader for the College, the Dean of Development and Public Affairs’ responsibilities will include the following priorities:
1. Work closely with the President, the President’s Cabinet and others on campus to build an optimal environment focused on promoting student engagement, advancing student learning, and enhancing a positive community climate.
2. Supervise the college’s marketing, communication and outreach efforts, and strategic planning process.
3. Supervises and coordinates the design and development of all college and foundation publications and digital marketing strategies.
4. Serves as executive director of the NMCC Foundation, representing the college to external constituencies. Directs annual appeal, implements planned giving program and prepares for major gift campaign.
5. Researches potential grant opportunities and submits proposals for grants to support the College, following established policies and procedures, including the By-Laws of the NMCC Foundation.
6. In collaboration with the NMCC Foundation Treasurer and the College President, directs effective and compliant foundation business and operations management, ensuring that funds are effectively accounted for, wisely invested, and disbursed as the donor intended. This includes providing accurate financial reports to the Foundation Board of Directors.
7. Continues development of alumni outreach efforts and develops new plans and communication methods for effectively engaging NMCC/NMTC/NMVTI alumni.
8. Participates in and/or coordinates various institutional committees for planning, budgeting and implementation of strategic college efforts.
9. Manages department staffing, budgets, and ensures compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
10. Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree with seven years direct experience in public relations, fund raising and community relations. Master’s degree preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent leadership, organization, interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of design and marketing principles, resource development, public relations techniques, planning, organizational development, and administering publicly financed budgets. Effective written and oral communication skills are mandatory. Working knowledge of computer technology, strategies for using social media and web design are required to function effectively.
