Democratic Party candidate Kathryn Harnish lost out to Republican Tracy Quint in the race for the District 144 House seat.
Harnish thanked everyone for the love and support shown during the election period.
“Thank you, friends in Aroostook County (and elsewhere!), for the amazing support you've shown me during this campaign. As the numbers have come in for a large part of District 144, it's clear that, for now, there's a different path I'm meant to travel,” she wrote on Facebook.
She also congratulated her opponent for the victory.
“Congratulations to Tracy Quint on her successful bid to represent southern Aroostook. We spoke yesterday morning at Houlton's polling place and discussed the fact that, in the midst of division and discord, we've both run positive campaigns about our own values,” she added.
