Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Maine at Fort Kent

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.9 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maine residents paid $8,115 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $150 more than the $7,965 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 51.8 percent more than residents this year, or $12,315. Their price tag grew 2 percent from $12,075 in 2017-18.

About 80 percent of the school’s undergraduate population are Maine residents. About 11 percent are residents of other states and 6 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 103 students received grants or scholarships totaling $639,743 and 68 students took out student loans totaling more than $427,283.

Including all undergraduates (1,791), 656 students used grants or scholarships totaling $3.6 million, and 559 students took out $3.7 million in federal student loans.
